QUILTERS

By Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek; music and lyrics by Miss Damashek; based on the book ''The Quilters: Women and Domestic Art,'' by Patricia Cooper and Norma Bradley Allen

Directed by David Grapes
Special Equity Guest Artist – Anna Stone

Originally developed and produced at the Denver Center Theatre company, this joyous and moving celebration of American Womanhood became a record-setting regional theater success before its presentations on Broadway and at the Edinburgh Festival. Combining music, dance movement and scenes of vivid dramatic intensity, the play pays eloquent tribute to the courage and spirit of our nation's pioneer woman.

"QUILTERS is a show pieced together with love and stitched with pride…a thing of beauty, comfort and joy." —NY Post.

"…a tender and moving theatre work, a human patchwork rippling in the breeze of memory." —Newsweek.

In Hairspray it's 1962 - the '50s are out and change is in the air. Baltimore's Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, has only one passion--to dance. She wins a spot on the local TV dance program, "The Corny Collins Show" and, overnight, is transformed from outsider to irrepressible teen celebrity. But can a trendsetter in dance and fashion vanquish the program's reigning princess, win the heart of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a television show without denting her 'do? Only in Hairspray! Welcome to the '60s!

Note: This is a special production featuring the involvement of 54 of the nation’s most gifted high school musical theatre talents including Colorado’s own Molly Brynteson, Brenna Larsen, Sam Lips, Jenna Moll Reyes, Jon Shockness, Molly Browne and Dennis Culpepper.

PICNIC

by William Inge

Directed by Tom McNally

Labor Day weekend in the early 1950’s, in a small Kansas town. This is the age of sock hops, hot rods, Father-Knows-Best family structure and twin beds – a world of strict moral and social behavior with little tolerance for any deviation. The waning days of summer should give way to the promise of autumn and a fresh start. But it’s 1953 in this small Kansas town and options are few for the stunningly beautiful Madge and her independent younger sister, Millie, who yearn for more than the life of staid domesticity awaiting them. Then Hal, a dangerously handsome drifter, comes along and sets the whole town a-flutter. He and Madge strike instant sparks, but can she really reject all she’s been taught to want to follow unreliable hopes and a pounding heart? In this Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, the “playwright of the Midwest”  depicts the pleasure—and the pain—of risking everything to choose your own path

"Inge has made a rich, original, and honest play with an awareness of commonplace people," Brooks Atkinson - New York Times

DOUBT

A parable by John Patrick Shanley

Directed by David Grapes
Special Equity Guest Artist – Anna Stone

Winner of the 2004 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for Best Play. Against the backdrop of a Bronx Catholic school in 1964, a hard-edged nun grows suspicious when a young priest seems to take special interest in a new student. Convinced that the man will be blindly protected by the church hierarchy, she sets out to confront him herself. But are her fears based upon moral certainty or stubborn prejudice? One of the most critically acclaimed plays of the last decade examines the blurry line between reality and gossip, discipline and compassion, truth and doubt. This fast-moving, suspense-filled drama is as gripping as it is thought-provoking.

“An inspired study in moral uncertainty with the compelling structure of an old-fashioned detective novel.” — The New York Times

“The #1 show of the year.” — Time Magazine

NUNSENSE

By Dan Goggin

Directed and Choreographed by John Leonard

Nunsense begins when the Little Sisters of Hoboken discover that their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, has accidentally poisoned 52 of the sisters, and they are in dire need of funds for the burials. The sisters decide that the best way to raise the money is to put on a variety show, so they take over the school auditorium, which is currently set up for the eighth grade production of “Grease.” Here we meet Reverend Mother Regina, a former circus performer; Sister Mary Hubert, the Mistress of Novices; a streetwise nun from Brooklyn named Sister Robert Anne; Sister Mary Leo, a novice who is a wannabe ballerina; and the delightfully wacky Sister Mary Amnesia, the nun who lost her memory when a crucifix fell on her head. Featuring star turns ,tap and ballet dancing, an audience quiz, and comic surprises, this show has become an international phenomenon.

"A hail of fun and frolic! Wacky and outrageous with a hysterical anything goes sense of fun!" N.Y. Times.

"You don't have to be Catholic to love Nunsense!" Entertainment Tonight. "Inspired madness! Go see it!" Jewish Post and Opinion.

"Guaranteed to lift your spirits.... Very, very funny." National Catholic News.
