The College of Performing and Visual Arts kicks off the SUMMER SEASON with an exciting variety of arts events. From the return to our campus of the Concerts Under the Stars to the exciting line-up of plays and musicals produced by our Little Theatre of the Rockies, the College’s array of events this summer highlight the University of Northern Colorado’s role in bringing the world of the arts to our community. In addition to our concerts and plays, the College is also presenting a number of summer workshops for teachers and students which are outlined in this newly designed calendar of events.

The College is also offering a series of fun and informative non-credit mini-courses, workshops, and experiences for young people, families, and adults. This new program of hands-on activities was developed by our Office of Community Arts. I hope you will take advantage of these offerings that have been specifically developed to encourage people on and off our campus to enjoy the arts through hands-on participation.

One of the wonderful things about working in the arts at the University of Northern Colorado is being surrounded by so many talented artists, both those on the faculty and from the student body. It is a delight to hear the students practicing their instruments as one walks through Frasier Hall. Watching dance students hone their skills on the top floor studios of Crabbe Hall brings to mind the suffering that these artists go through to work toward perfection. Sneaking a peak into the Norton Theatre to catch a glimpse of a student director working with her cast of actors is to witness the conceptualization of new dramatic experiences. Passing by a painting studio in Guggenheim Hall provides one with the opportunity to observe the creation of fresh ideas revealed through never before seen images.

The summer season of arts events will provide you with the opportunity to experience these same kinds of brilliant happenings. After months and years of practice, rehearsal, and diligent work, our faculty, students, and guest artists will bring to you the fruits of their labor. I encourage you to take advantage of any number of the entertaining and enriching performances and presentations included in this events calendar.

Feel the energy and spirit of the arts through the dynamic activities of our faculty, students, and guest artists, and join us for one or all of the exciting events we have to offer this summer. Your support and participation in our programs makes a difference in the lives of our students and it will make a difference in your life as well.
